Veterans in their 90s and older were recognized Sunday at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo for their valor and years of service.
SAN ANTONIO — If you were to ask a war hero what is the most rewarding part of being a veteran, you may get different answers but one idea remains, each veteran is proud to answer the call to service.
Sam Castillo served his country in the Korean War until 1952. He says a hero’s job is never done.
“I’d do it again, reason for [it],” Castillo said. “I need to see more freedom in the world.”
For another official guest for the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, Jesus Perez, he spent nearly three years in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.
In 1958, Perez joined the U.S. Army for 22 and half years.
“You learn how to be a man,” Perez said.
Castillo and Perez are part of the eight war veterans who were recognized at this year’s rodeo.
“I’m glad I helped in the war,” Castillo said.
