Business owners, chefs, and community members are serving up more than just food, they’re dishing out hope and support.
COMFORT, Texas — “A warm meal and a whole lot of heart.” Volunteers from across Texas are coming together in Comfort to say “thank you” to first responders.
Business owners, chefs, and community members are serving up more than just food, they’re dishing out hope and support.
Volunteers from Luling, New Braunfels, Houston and Louisiana are all making breakfast tacos starting at 5 a.m. to serve in the morning.
For lunch and dinner, they’re making Texas barbeque and fajitas. All of the food is donated from the community.
Executive chef for the 1908 restaurant in Seguin, Hawk Sullivan, has been coordinating this effort. He says this is the right thing to do.
“There’s a lot of hurt,” said Sullivan. “There’s a lot of pain and suffering. We want to make really good food, to maybe make the day a little bit better on some of these people’s worst day of their lives. And what have you seen with first responders showing up? Well, they’re showing up all throughout the day. And, these folks are coming in muddy and dirty and tired and sweaty and hungry. And, you know, we want to feed them. So that’s we’re just seeing a lot of, there’s been a lot of support for this community from all of us, from all the first responders and all that.”
They have enough food to feed those in need and are not asking for any more food donations at this time.
Folks in need can pick up the food or have it delivered if you give them a call or send them a Facebook message.
They’re serving first responders from New Braunfels, Seguin, Houston and Lubbock.
If you would like to donate, the organization is also helping with expenses for the first responders’ travel.
