Investigators say phone data, a gun purchase and a witness tied 36-year-old Darrin Rogers Jr. to the fatal shooting of his brother.
CONVERSE, Texas — New details revealed in an arrest warrant outline what investigators say led them to charge a 36-year-old Converse man with killing his brother over the summer.
According to the warrant, Converse police arrested Darrin Rogers Jr. in connection with the July 5 death of his brother, Anthony Rogers.
Investigators say the brothers had been in a violent argument the day before the shooting. Their father told detectives that during that fight, Darrin pointed a handgun at Anthony.
According to the warrant, Anthony kicked Darrin out of his home afterward but told family he feared his brother might return.
Court documents state that Darrin routinely used Anthony’s Wi-Fi to connect his cellphones and make calls. Investigators say that when they searched Darrin’s phones, data showed they had connected to the internet at Anthony’s home nearly an hour before Anthony was killed.
Records also state that investigators found a receipt showing Darrin purchased a pistol the day before the shooting. The caliber of ammunition he bought matched the shell casings found at the crime scene, according to investigators.
A neighbor identified Darrin as a suspect in a photo lineup, the warrant states. Family members also told investigators that Darrin had been experiencing mental decline in recent months and showing increased paranoia and aggression.
Rogers was booked into the Bexar County Jail on a murder charge. His bond is set at $250,000, according to jail records.
