Warriors 125, Spurs 120: What they said after the game

Spurs saw their winning streak and their first home loss against the Warriors.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs saw their three-game win streak snapped at home against the Golden State Warriors, 125-120. Victor Wembanyama led the team with 31 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. Stephon Castle recorded his first triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. This is the team’s first home loss of the season.

De’Aaron Fox had 13 points, and Stephon Castle had 19 points and 11 assists. Luke Kornet added 12, Keldon Johnson finished with six and nine rebounds.

The Warriors’ Stephen Curry had 46 points.

Here’s a sample of what the Spurs and Warriors said after the game.

Mitch Johnson:

“Combination of things. I think obviously 21 threes and then 32 free throws is tough. You hold a team to 22 points in the paint, typically. That’s a good number. Felt like there were a few times that we probably had some participation in stopping our runs, whether that was some good offensive stretches and then we didn’t have discipline or shorted up defensively, or had some good defensive stretches and probably didn’t capitalize, or some self-inflicted wounds.”

“I feel like, as a team, we focus so much on how other teams are playing, trying to stop them, and we have to realize teams are probably trying to do the same thing with us. We just got to stick to what we’re good at, what we do well, and impose our will on the defensive end. It’s hard with a team like this, but we just got to figure it out.”

Wembanyama:

“It’s very frustrating, obviously, but it’s not the reason we lost. Curry had 46 (points). So the game is played for 48 minutes, and we didn’t do our job. We did a good job at times, not for 48. Even before getting to the league, I knew from watching the Warriors for years and years when they got the momentum, they’re really good. So it’s hard to stop them.”
