WATCH: Generational players meet. Spurs’ Wembanyama, Blackhawks’ Bedard talk about their path to the pros

Wembanyama reveals more about his path to the NBA while talking to a fellow top pick.

SAN ANTONIO — A pair of generational young players from the NBA and NHL met for a chat about their path to the professional ranks.

San Antonio Spurs‘ Victor Wembanyama and the Chicago Blackhawks’ Conner Bedard went one-on-one in a recent interview.

Both players had fun recalling some of the fondest moments leading up to achieving their goals of joining the NBA and NHL.

Wembanyama discussed how it was almost not allowed for young French basketball players to openly talk about making it to the NBA while Bedard said that’s all young hockey players do in Canada.

“I don’t know about you but for me in France, when we were really young it’s like sometimes it’s almost forbidden to dream about about the NBA since almost nobody makes it,” Wembanyama revealed.

Wembanyama also looked back at NBA Draft Night 2023 and his tour of San Antonio to meet the fans who welcomed him with open arms in the city.

Bedard shares his similar story when he joined  Chicago as well as the start of his pro-NHL career.

Wembanyama also shared what drives him to be the best.

“My body. My talent. My health and to me it’s like every day I don’t want to waste even one percent of what I got,” he said. “Do the most you can with what was gifted to you.”
