WATCH: Powerlines fall over on gusty evening in northwest San Antonio, causing outages

SAN ANTONIO — More than 8,000 CPS Energy customers were without power at one point Friday night in northwest San Antonio, shortly after a stretch of powerlines appeared to have been blown over.

By 9:50 p.m., the number of customers affected was about 7,600 across 83 active outages concentrated in the area of Loop 1604 and Kyle Seale Parkway. Ten minutes later, the number had dwindled to 1,000.

Dash cam video showed the moment a pole started leaning and falling to the ground along the highway frontage road, bring a few other nearby poles down with it and causing a momentary power flash as traffic moved out of the way to avoid debris.

CPS Energy earlier in the day warned of strong evening wind gusts that might cause outages and keep crews busy as they tend to impacted areas of the city. Check the current CPS Energy Outage Map here
