WATCH: Shooting involving BCSO deputy early Sunday

According to BCSO, deputies were called to the scene for a reported domestic disturbance involving a man who was estranged from his family.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Two Bexar County deputies were shot during a domestic disturbance call early Sunday morning in north Bexar County, authorities confirmed.

It happened just after 8:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Tecumseh Drive, near East Borgfeld Road in the Timberwood Park neighborhood, in north Bexar County.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene for a reported domestic disturbance involving a man who was estranged from his family.

Investigators say a woman who lives at the home with her two children, both under the age of 10, fled the house with the kids after the man forced his way inside. She was able to call 911.

When deputies arrived, the suspect was inside the home. As deputies attempted to make contact, the man produced a weapon and began firing, striking both deputies.

One deputy was hit in the hip and the other in the hand. Sheriff’s officials say both injuries were “through and through.” The deputies returned fire, killing the suspect.

The two deputies were taken to University Hospital, where they are listed in stable condition. One deputy has more than 10 years of service with the sheriff’s office, while the other has been with the department for about two years.

The suspect, a 38-year-old man, has not yet been identified.

Sheriff’s officials say there is no danger to the community. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office will continue gathering evidence as investigators process the scene.

Residents in the Timberwood Park area are being asked to remain patient as the investigation continues.

This is a developing story.
