WATCH: Trailer for new ‘Hunger Games’ movie features this Oscar-nominated Texas actor

Jesse Plemons, who can be seen now in the eccentric drama “Bugonia,” will be featured in 2026’s big-screen return to Panem.

SAN ANTONIO — Jesse Plemons, the Oscar-nominated actor fresh off working on a pair of films by eccentric filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, will trade zany for spectacle with the arrival of the latest “Hunger Games” movie in 2026. 

Plemons will appear in next year’s big-screen return to Panem as a young Plutarch Heavensbee – the man who would go on to become a key rebellion leader in the universe, previously played by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman – in “Sunrise on the Reaping.” Plemons joins a cast fairly evenly split between cinema all-stars (Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close) and performers on the rise (Maya Hawke, Joseph Zada). 

Thursday morning saw the arrival of the first full-length look at “Sunrise on the Reaping,” which unfolds 24 years before the events of the first book and explores the world of Panem during the 50th Hunger Games. The initial footage of Plemons’ Plutarch is brief, but foreboding.

Cinephiles who can’t wait until Nov. 20, 2026, to get their Plemons fix can head to the theaters now to catch him alongside Emma Stone in Lanthimos’ “Bugonia,” in which he plays  can be seen in theaters now alongside Emma Stone in Lanthimos’ “Bugonia,” about what happens when “two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth,” according to the IMDB logline.

You can’t say the Dallas native doesn’t have range. 

He’s also set to appear in the untitled next project from Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the director of “Birdman” and “The Revenant,” along with Tom Cruise, John Goodman and Riz Ahmed. That expected to arrive sometime next year 2026, though details are sparse.
