‘We are broken’: Family searches for answers after young father was gunned down in his home

Isaiah Guevara, 20, was discovered dead in his apartment on Fredericksburg Road. Days later, his killer is at large.

SAN ANTONIO — A grieving family is turning to the community for help after a young father was gunned down in his own home.

It happened at the Villas of Oak Creste Apartments on Fredericksburg Road. Just after 4 a.m. on Oct. 26, police respond to reports of a shooting. The caller claimed several stray bullets pierced through their apartment wall. When officers checked the apartment next door, they found 20-year-old Isaiah Guevara dead from a gunshot wound.

“Someone went into his apartment and killed him,” said Isaiah’s aunt, Christina Rodriguez. “That’s all we know, and we don’t understand why they would do that to him.”

Isaiah leaves behind two young daughters, loved ones say.

“Now they don’t have a dad,” said Christina. “We are broken. His birthday was on September 17; he just turned 20. We were like, ‘Oh, you made it to your 20s!’ His life was cut short.”

“He was such an innocent soul,” said Isaiah’s cousin, Angel Rodriguez. “He was so happy and all about family. He was always willing to help and was the first one there in your time of need. I am numb to the fact that someone would do this to him.”

The family believes no one is safe with Isaiah’s killer at large.

“If they can do this to him, they can do it to someone else,” said Christina. “We just want witnesses to step forward. I know some are scared – it’s scary, I get it – but this is an innocent life [that was taken].”

Angel says she cannot begin her grieving process without answers.

“I won’t have peace,” she said. “I am going to fight, my family is going to fight, until we get justice.”

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has not released a suspect description. There were cameras at the apartment building where Isaiah was killed, but it’s unclear if they captured anything.
