‘We can’t give up’: Search intensifies for Bexar County teen who disappeared on Christmas Eve

Volunteers say current efforts are focused on an approximately 8-square-mile radius around Camila’s home.

SAN ANTONIO — Family members, friends and community volunteers gathered Sunday morning to search for Camila Mendoza Olmos, who has been missing since Christmas Eve in northwest Bexar County.

About 60 to 70 volunteers formed organized search teams in the Wildhorse subdivision, focusing on areas near Camila’s home, according to organizers.

“We’ve got five teams and we’ve already assigned sections,” Frank Trevino, search volunteer said. “They’re out there trying to comb the areas.”

Authorities say Camila was last seen just before 7 a.m. on Christmas Eve, captured on a neighbor’s surveillance video standing next to her car outside her home on Caspian Spring. The footage does not show what happened afterward. Camila was gone, but her car remained at the location.

Her mother, Rosario Olmos, reported her missing hours later. Since then, multiple searches have been conducted.

Volunteers say current efforts are focused on an approximately 8-square-mile radius around Camila’s home. Searchers are navigating challenging terrain and potentially dangerous conditions, including wildlife.

“There are rodents, animals, hogs — things like that,” a volunteer said. “They need to be aware of their surroundings at all times.”

Rosario Olmos said the family is overwhelmed by the support from the community.

“We are hopeful every day,” she said. “At times we are broken but we are staying strong because my daughter is missing and we don’t know where she is.”

She is asking the public to continue sharing Camila’s story on social media and to keep the family in their prayers.

“Please, lots of prayers,” Olmos said. “We’re doing everything possible to bring my daughter home.”

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Saturday that deputies have conducted multiple searches using ground teams, drones and cadaver dogs, but Camila has not been found.

Investigators are asking neighbors in the area to review home security camera footage from Christmas Eve morning, saying any video could help establish a clearer timeline of Camila’s disappearance.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
