‘We do it our way, baby’: Netflix drops new Cowboys documentary trailer

The clip was the latest trailer from the upcoming Cowboys documentary, “American’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys.”

DALLAS — Netflix knows how to make a teaser.

In just a two-minute, 11-second clip posted by the streaming giant Monday, we saw and heard the following: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones conceding that he didn’t know how to run a football team; Jimmy Johnson’s famed “asthma my a–” quote from training camp; Michael Irvin’s arrest on cocaine charges at a Residence Inn; former President George W. Bush reminding us what that hole in Texas Stadium was for (so God can watch his favorite team, of course); and a smiling Jerry, declaring through it all, “We do it our way baby.”

Yeah, this might be must-watch TV.

The clip, which you can watch in full below, was the latest trailer from the upcoming Cowboys documentary, “American’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys,” which is set to be released on Aug. 19.

The doc, which Netflix is touting as “the definitive story of Jerry Jones” and his time as Cowboys owner, has been in the works for a while. But Monday was our most extensive look yet at what will ultimately stream across 10 episodes starting in August.

The documentary is a partnership with the Jones family, tracing Jones’ “rise from the son of an Arkansas community store owner to being one of the most innovative and influential leaders in sports.”

And as Monday’s trailer would indicate, much of that success as owner of the Cowboys will focus on the ’90s dynasty: coaches Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer, quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith, receiver Michael Irvin and defensive back Deion Sanders all talked for the documentary.

The frustration, of course, for Cowboys fans is there hasn’t been much else to reminisce about on the field since “The Triplets” era. So how the Jones-supported documentary addresses the 30-year title drought might be just as interesting as those wild tales from the ’90s.
