‘We had no choice’: Dog given to AHS with heart-wrenching note finds forever family

On Dec. 15, an Arizona Humane Society employee found Armando tied up in the Sunnyslope Campus shelter parking lot.

PHOENIX — Armando has found a home.

He’s a 4-year-old Labrador retriever mix whose family tragically had to give him up just a few days before Christmas. On Dec. 15, an Arizona Human Society employee found Armando tied up in the Sunnyslope Campus shelter parking lot. There was a note left with Armando that read,

It is with heavy heart that we had to result to this but due to unforeseen circumstances we had no choice. This is Armando (Mando). He is four-years-old, Husky Labrodor Mix. He has had his shots but might need them soon. He’s very friendly with dogs and people. He is prone to ear infections. We pray he finds a good home. God bless.

Armando needed to be treated for a minor ear infection, AHS said, but he’s otherwise in good condition and was ready to be adopted.

Unfortunately, Armando’s story isn’t uncommon. AHS shared that with shelters across Maricopa County full, many pets are being abandoned when their owners can no longer take care of them.

They’re urging prospective pet owners to adopt instead of buying a pet from a breeder or pet store. There are many dogs just like Armando looking for a home.

Pet owners that need assistance can find more about AHS services at azhumane.org/resources. Additionally, the Arizona Pet Project helps support pet owners during times of crises to keep them in contact with their pets. You can find more information at azpetproject.org.
