SAN ANTONIO — An 18-year-old man is dead after an early morning shooting on the city’s north side, according to San Antonio police.
The shooting was reported around 2:19 a.m. in the 500 block of Carmel Place, where officers received multiple 911 calls about gunfire in the area. Police say the final call reported a man lying in the street next to a BMW.
“We heard like about 8-10 gunshots and then they stop. We jump out of bed and then we heard like four, five more,” said one neighbor who asked to remain anonymous.
When officers arrived, they found the victim unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest. First responders rushed the shooting victim to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Investigators say several suspects fled the scene on foot before police arrived. Detectives are now working to determine what led to the shooting and who was involved.
“It’s been scary the last year. Of course we are worried, all the neighbors are worried,” the neighbor said. “We have one neighbor who already moved out.”
Law enforcement are familiar with Carmel Place. In July 2024, a 15-year-old boy was shot and left for dead following a massive house party. The teenager survived and was released from the hospital after 130 days.
Anyone with information regarding the latest shooting on Dec. 9 is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
