‘Welcome home’: Wemby, Manu among the first to congratulate Dylan Harper after he was drafted by SA

Dylan Harper joins the Spurs after being drafted second overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio now knows who the newest Spur to dribble onto the Frost Bank Center hardwood will be: Dylan Harper, who was taken with the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

The selection of the 6-foot-5 guard out of Rutgers who impressed scouts with his “do-it-all” playmaking style amounts to another infusion of young talent for the Spurs, who are looking to make it back to the playoffs with their core of Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle.

It remains to be seen if Harper will become the third Spurs to win Rookie of the Year after Wemby and Castle. But Wembanyama shared a simple message to the 19-year-old on his Instagram story: “Welcome home.”

Spurs Hall of Famer Manu Ginobili, who knows a thing or two about NBA playoff action, also shared his approval of the selection on X.
