San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle earns NBA Rookie of the Year, receiving accolades from Victor Wembanyama and Manu Ginobili.
SAN ANTONIO — The NBA announced that San Antonio Spurs rookie guard Stephon Castle has been named the 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year and he’s receiving high praise from teammate Victor Wembanyama and franchise great Manu Ginobili.
“Hustle, heart and just pure talent… All year long, you showed why you deserved this title. So proud of you Stephon Castle,” posted Wemby on X.
“Congrats Steph! What an amazing rookie season! Quite excited about our future,” shared Ginobili.
Castle joins an exclusive list of notable Spurs to capture the award. He is the fourth Spur to win, joining Wembanyama, Tim Duncan and David Robinson.
In addition, following Wembanyama’s Rookie of the Year Award last season, San Antonio became the fifth team in NBA history to feature back-to-back rookie winners—a testament to the Spurs’ development and scouting.
There was no doubt that Castle would walk home with the award.
He averaged a rookie-best 14.7 points, with 4.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 0.91 steals. He was also the first Spurs rookie since Duncan to rank top two on the team in both points and assists, while leading all rookies in total points (1,190), made field goals (423), total steals (74) and made 100-plus more free throws (249) than any other first-year player.
The 2025 Rising Stars MVP earned Western Conference Rookie of the Month honors in January and March and was the only player in the 2024 draft class to surpass 1,000 points.
