Wembanyama shines in win over Pacers; Spurs move to 4-0 in the preseason

In just 25 minutes, Wemby scored 27 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and shot 9-13 from the field, including 2-3 from three-point range.

INDIANAPOLIS — Don’t get too excited Spurs fans, but in the fourth preseason game of the season, Victor Wembanyama already looks in mid-season form after a 124-108 win over the Indiana Pacers.

In just 25 minutes, Wemby scored 27 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and shot 9-13 from the field, including 2-3 from three-point range. That’s not to mention him going 7-7 from the free throw line.

It wasn’t all Wemby though, there were six players in double figures for the Silver & Black: Backup center Luke Kornet (16 points), Keldon Johnson (14 points), Stephon Castle (14 points), Julian Champagnie (12 points) and rookie Dylan Harper (11 points).

Despite Wemby’s 27 points, he wasn’t the highest scorer of the game. The Pacers’ Bennedict Mathurin poured in 31 points, going 11-12 from the field including a perfect 4-4 from three for the defending Eastern Conference champions.

The game was relatively close throughout the game until the Spurs pulled away late in the fourth quarter, not looking back and ultimately winning 124-108.

The Spurs are undefeated in the preseason play, now sitting at 4-0. Their last preseason game will take place on Friday where they will once again play the Pacers.

After that, it’s on to the regular season. They tip off against the Dallas Mavericks and No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg on Oct. 22.
