‘We’re fully expecting there’s going to be other victims’ | BCSO says good deed leads to a child porn investigation

According to Sheriff Salazar, after helping Hernandez who had run out of gas earlier in the day, a man says he was sent child porn videos by Hernandez.

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with a child pornography investigation, authorities said.

The suspect, identified as Gerardo Fabian Hernandez, is facing a charge of possession and promotion of child pornography, according to Sheriff Javier Salazar.

Investigators said the case began April 22, when a man reported receiving videos containing child pornography from an unknown phone number. The recipient later recognized the number as belonging to Hernandez, whom he had encountered earlier that day while assisting a stranded motorist who had run out of gas. Salazar says the two exchanged numbers because Hernandez was suppose to reimburse the other man for the gas.

Authorities said the man immediately contacted law enforcement, prompting an investigation.

“They were able to identify Gerardo Fabian Hernandez as the owner of that cell phone number, the subscriber of that cell phone information,” Salazar said. “And we were able to identify whom we believe to be victims in this case.”

Salazar said investigators believe three victims are depicted in the material, including two minors and one individual who may now be a young adult.

Officials said the victims are not related to Hernandez. Investigators allege Hernandez sought out living situations that gave him access to children.

They added that additional victims are possible, noting Hernandez previously worked as a maintenance worker at an apartment complex.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about Hernandez or who believes a child may have been a victim to contact them at 210-335-6000. You can also send email them at BCSOTIPS@Bexar.org

The investigation is ongoing.
