‘We’re struggling everyday’ – 2 families wait for justice one year after murder of expectant mother and boyfriend

December 26 marks one year since the shocking discovery of Savanah Soto and boyfriend Matthew Guerra, who were found murdered days after being reported missing.

SAN ANTONIO — It’s now been one year since the shocking discovery of a pregnant woman and her boyfriend who were found dead days after going missing.

Savanah Soto, 18, and Matthew Guerra were found dead inside a car in the Medical Center area one year ago, on December 26, with their unborn baby, Fabian.

Both families are still waiting to get justice.

A trial date has not been set yet for the three people indicted in the murder of Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra.

They’re expected to be back in court by the end of January for an evidence exchange hearing.

On January 3, eight days after Soto and Guerra’s bodies were discovered, police arrested 19-year-old Christopher Preciado and his father Ramon. Preciado is being charged for capital murder.

Ramon is being charged with the abuse of a corpse.

A week after the initial arrests, police also arrested 47-year-old Mytra Romanos, who is believed to be Preciado’s stepmother.

She’s facing three charges for altering/destroying a corpse, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence.

Police say they tracked them down using Soto’s cell phone

In the arrest affidavit, it says the murder happened over a bad marijuana deal.

“We won’t see her anymore. Only in pictures. It will never be the same again,” said Rachel Soto, Savanah’s grandmother.

Since the murder, the Soto and Guerra families have held vigils and memorials attending each hearing in court.

“I hope they pay for whatever they did to my daughter, I hope what’s coming to them, they get, cause they took an innocent girl that was going to be a mommy, they just took her life for nothing,” said Gloria Cordova, Savanah’s mother.

“We’re struggling every day. It’s tough to sit there through those court hearings,” said Gabriel Guerra, Matthew’s father.

Soto was set to be induced to go into labor two days before Leon Valley police issued a CLEAR alert for her going missing.

Soto and Guerra had already set up a nursery for Fabian’s delivery.

He would have just celebrated his first birthday.
