“This is a dream come true, and I’m honored to represent our community on the world stage,” said Odessa PD Captain Caleb Lacey.
ODESSA, Texas — An officer with the Odessa Police Department (OPD) was selected to represent Texas law enforcement on the world stage of the Special Olympics.
OPD Captain Caleb Lacey will be a part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s Final Leg.
According to OPD Corporal Steve LeSueur, Lacey will proudly carry the prestigious Flame of Hope through Italy from March 1 to March 8 as a Guardian of the Flame.

“This is a dream come true, and I’m honored to represent our community on the world stage,” said Lacey.
LeSueur said Lacey is one of just 81 officers and eight Special Olympics athletes worldwide chosen for the honor.
LeSueur added Lacey has dedicated himself to fundraising and forging lasting friendships with Special Olympics athletes.

“Captain Lacey is a leader in Special Olympics Texas West Region and has helped to elevate the LETR movement,” said Special Olympics Texas CEO Tim Martin.
LeSueur said the Flame of Hope will be lit in Athens, Greece on Feb. 25, blessed by the Pope in Rome, and carried through Italy’s Piedmont Region before reaching the grand Special Olympics World Winter Games Opening Ceremony in Turin on March 8.
