What to know about trash pickup, library hours, other City of San Antonio services on Labor Day

Here’s what will and won’t be operating in San Antonio and Bexar County for the holiday.

SAN ANTONIO — The Labor Day weekend has arrived in San Antonio, another marker that high school football is underway and the holidays are right around the corner. 

It also means not all city and county services will be operating as normal come Monday, Sept. 1. Perhaps the best news for those with local holiday plans: You won’t have to pay to park in downtown metered spots. 

Read on for what to expect when it comes to emergency response, library service, trash pickup and other local operations on Labor Day. 

Operating as normal or in limited capacity

  • Police, fire and EMS.
  • City parks and trails.
  • Shops at La Villita and Market Square. 
  • Garbage, recycling and organic pickup services at city residences will run on normal schedules all week. 
  • Municipal Court ministration services and police detention center operating as normal.
  • The 311 residents services call line will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but until 11 p.m. for “urgent animal concerns and traffic signal malfunctions.”
  • Code Enforcement personnel available to conduct inspections and emergency coverage.
  • Fitness in the Park classes held in a limited capacity. 
  • Some outdoor pools will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. (See the list here).

Closed for the holiday 

  • All Bexar County offices and departments. 
  • All San Antonio Public Library locations. 
  • The Animal Care Services lobby and adoption center. 
  • Parks and Recreation Headquarters at Darner. 
  • City-operated community centers, adult and senior centers, as well as the Atanacio Garcia Natatorium, McFarlin Tennis Centers, Barrera Community Fitness Center and Wheatley Heights Sports Complex. 
  • All Metro Health clinics and offices. 
  • San Antonio Municipal Court. 
  • SAPD administration and records sections, SAFD administrative offices. 
  • Bitters Brush Recycling Center (1800 Wurzbach Parkway) will be closed. Household Hazardous Waste drop-off centers at Bitters, Frio City Road, Rigsby and Culebra will all be closed. 
  • Solid Waste Management administrative offices. 
  • Senior and adult comprehensive centers, along with senior nutrition sites. 
  • Willie Velasquez, Claude Black, Frank Garrett community centers. 
  • Child Care Services administrative offices. 
  • Homeless Connections Hotline. 
  • Veterans Services. 
  • Street Outreach.
  • Homeless Encampment Team. 
  • Head Start administrative offices and school district site. 
  • Carver Community Cultural Center. 
  • Culture Commons Gallery at Plaza de Armas, Centro de Artes Gallery at Market Square. 
  • Spanish Governors Palace. 
  • World Heritage Center. 
  • Alamodome offices and box office. 
  • Pre-K 4 SA education centers and corporate office. 
  • La Villita and Market Square administrative offices. 
  •  Development Services Department, Planning Department, and Neighborhood and Housing Services. 
  • Office of Historic Preservation. 
  • Office of the City Clerk.
