It’s almost Super Bowl Day, y’all. And while most of us won’t get the chance to fly in to the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas come Sunday, February 11, to see the outcome first hand, inquiring minds at MySA asked: What would the cost of an average Super Bowl ticket buy you in San Antonio.

According to reports from CNN, the average price of a Super Bowl ticket has skyrocketed to $9,800. That’s a 70% increase from last year’s ticket prices. And while many would be hard pressed to come up with that kind of cash for a single game, let’s get hypothetical here and break down exactly what that same amount could get you in the Alamo City.

Well, for starters, it could get you a pretty nice house in San Antonio with a 3% down payment, according to information released by the Havas Formula. The average price of a home in San Antonio is $251,545, according to data from Zillow. For context, that’d be $7,546.35 for a 3% down payment. Now if you really wanted to stretch that $9,800, you could put that full amount toward a 3% down payment on a $326,666 home.

Maybe you’re just thinking tacos. We get it, it happens. Well, MySA research shows the price of an average 2024 Super Bowl ticket equates to 6,125 bean and cheese tacos from Mama Margie’s. OK, so you’re a realist. With tax applied, you could still snag 5,658 of those tacos with $9,800 – that’s two tacos a day for more than seven and a half years. Talk about living large.

In the spirit of Taylor Swift’s speedy journey from her Tokyo tour straight to the Super Bowl to support her beaux – and yes, the math has been done to prove she could make it there in time – a flight to Tokyo from San Antonio would cost between $1,277 and $2,454, leaving plenty of spare cash for a week-long stay in the Japanese capital. With the average hotel in Tokyo costing around $400 a night, you could stay for seven days and still have roughly $4,500 to load up your suitcase with souvenirs and dine like a royal.

For a staycation in the lap of luxury, you could book out Hotel Emma’s most expensive suite – the Plaza Suite which features a living room, oversized clawfoot tub, a king-sized bed, and Pearl Plaza views – for seven days and still have $595 to dine out every night. Or you’d like to see the river during your luxurious week? Well, you could book out the River Suite, which boasts an expansive 525 square feet that overlooks the San Antonio Riverwalk, for a measly $1,165 a night for seven days. Talk about an affordable option – you’d be left with over $1,600 to enjoy some fine dining and downtown shopping.

Perhaps football isn’t your steeze. If you wanted to watch a Spurs game like a high-roller, you could possible catch a few games from a suite or ball out big once and have some money left in your pocket. According to SpursSuites.com, suite packages range from $3,000 to $9,000 depending on what day of the week it is, the time of year, and who the Spurs are taking on that day. I mean kind of worth it for the food and drinks that come along with the suite right? You certainly end up splashing some serious cash hitting up those Frost Bank Center vendors anyway.

Maybe you’re a baseball fan instead. According to Seat Geek data, you could bring four of your closest friends to about 27 games seated in the nicest spots available at the San Antonio Missions baseball games. The most expensive seats still available are running about $71, according to Seat Geek. There are season passes and boxes available, but The Missions website fails to share those costs up front.

Maybe you want to be a bit more practical with your mysteriously acquired $9,800 in this hypothetical situation. So, put that dough to good use by putting it towards just over six months of rent for a two bedroom at The Beverly apartment complex – an apartment complex that boasts walkability near downtown San Antonio and along the desirable Broadway Street area. A two bedroom would run you $1,475, meaning the cost of an average Super Bowl ticket would cover six and a half months. But maybe you don’t need all that space. If so, spring for the more affordable studio at $1,049, and you’d have nine months of rent covered.
