Whataburger Museum of Art to showcase unique creations at South by Southwest

Hundreds of unique pieces will be shown for two days only during the annual Austin event.

AUSTIN, Texas — Whataburger fans can celebrate the beloved Texas fast food restaurant in a new way next month.

For two days only, the chain’s “Museum of Art” will shift from a digital showcase to an in-person display during the annual South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival in Austin.

The event will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 at Wanderlust Wine Co. in Downtown Austin, located at 610 N. Interstate Hwy 35.

During this experience, members of the public and festival badge holders will get an up-close look at over 200 fan pieces, sculptures, commissioned installations and more. Murals, paintings, digital artworks and other styles will all be displayed at the temporary museum.

On March 8, Whataburger lovers can also get a taste of the Monterey Melt at a food truck during the event, which hasn’t been featured on the menu in roughly three years.

The retired menu item is making a temporary return, made with two burger patties, grilled vegetables, Jalapeño Ranch sauce, American cheese and of course, Monterey Jack Cheese.

Attendees can also receive their own Whataburger 75th Anniversary and SXSW Table Tent at the Table Tent Mugshot Wall. Additionally, attendees can place stickers on white walls at the Whataburger Day Dot Room.

Since 2021, enthusiasts of the burger chain have shared their fan creations to the Instagram account @thewmoa (Whataburger Museum of Art), which currently has more than 22,000 followers. Followers can tag the account for a chance to have their pieces featured.

This year, Whataburger is commemorating its 75th anniversary, honoring the occasion by bringing back another former menu item, the Chicken Fajita Taco.

New in 2025, the restaurant is also offering two new options: the Mexican Hot Chocolate Coffee and the Mexican Hot Chocolate Shake.

Whataburger officially turns 75 on Aug. 8, with deals, collaborations and more happening throughout the year.
