What’s that black smoke? Power outage at southeast Houston chemical plant leads to flaring

HOUSTON — A power outage at a chemical plant in southeast Houston prompted intermittent flaring Saturday morning, according to a notice on CAER Online.

TPC Group said crews were onsite to mitigate any safety issues. The company does not expect any impacts to employees or the surrounding area.

It’s unclear how long the flaring will last. Plumes of black smoke could be seen from nearby highways.
