When will Loop 1604/I-10 see closures the rest of the year? Here are the dates San Antonio drivers should know about.

Beginning Dec. 19, drivers will have seen the last closures impacting the northwest-side interchange for the remainder of 2025. Here’s what happens beforehand.

SAN ANTONIO — Work on the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project in San Antonio won’t conclude this holiday season, but TxDOT is giving drivers some grace with fewer weekends of closures at the northwest side’s Loop 1604/Interstate 10 interchange.

The good news is the interchange will be impacted by extended closures for just one more weekend this year; that’ll be Dec. 5-7. Here’s what to know about the other dates from now until 2026 (and even a few days into January).

  • Nov. 28-30: No closures at the interchange.
  • Dec. 1-4: Standard daily/nightly closures at the interchange.
  • Dec. 5-7: One or more of the highways will be closed, possibly in both directions, for an extended period of time. The closures may also impact flyover ramps. More specific information on the weekend closures will be shared by TxDOT San Antonio as we near the weekend.
  • Dec. 8-18: Nightly closures affecting some lanes and ramps between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Dec. 19-Jan. 4: No closures at the interchange.

2025 was a big year for the Loop 1604/I-10 interchange, with five new flyovers now open to drivers and a sixth one coming next year.

Work on the $1.4 billion TxDOT project to expand a 23-mile stretch of Loop 1604 into a 10-lane expresswaywill continue in 2026. Development continues on five different segments, with the sixth and final segment not expected to be finished until 2028.

The project is also adding HOV lanes in both directions of the highway; creating more accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians on frontage roads; adding direct connectors; and “replacing the signalized frontage road intersections with a continuous flow configuration.”
