The locations of the next three Super Bowls are spoken for. Dallas has only hosted one Super Bowl since AT&T Stadium was completed in 2009.
DALLAS — New Orleans has now hosted the Super Bowl 11 times, tying Miami as the most frequent host of the Big Game.
The next three Super Bowls are spoken for, with Levi’s Stadium, SoFi Stadium and Mercedes-Benz Stadium slated to host the big game next. The upcoming games will mark the second go-around for Levi’s, SoFi and Mercedes-Benz.
Yet, AT&T Stadium, completed in 2009, has still only played host to the Super Bowl once. That fact is prompting DFW football fans to ask “When will it be our turn again?”
The last time Jerry World hosted in 2011, the game was marred by a week-long ice storm punctuated with a seating fiasco the day of the Super Bowl. Jerry Jones previously said the glut of new arenas built between 2009 and now has moved Dallas to the back of the line. But with newer stadiums now getting a second Super Bowl spot, we’re not sure how well that holds up.
Plus, Dallas has advantages! It’s well positioned between two coasts and inarguably is a logistics hub for several airlines. Plus the weather is, usually, pretty good compared to other destinations like Buffalo or East Rutherford, New Jersey.
But a tweet from the NFL’s top PR person may give us an insight into the league’s 14-year snub.
Arlington is often criticized for its lack of public transportation and its distance from Dallas. Anyone who’s driven on Interstate 30 at the height of rush hour can attest it’s not exactly a “walkable” commute. The area around the Stadium has also historically lacked entertainment options. Although, since 2011 Loews has moved into the area, building a hotel and Texas Live.
Besides, SoFi and the greater Los Angeles area are notably un-walkable so clearly we’re missing part of the equation. Plus, AT&T Stadium is no stranger to major events. It will host nine matches for the 2026 World Cup and was reportedly considered for the championship match.
But as far as the Super Bowl goes, AT&T Stadium isn’t on the radar again, for now.
