Where you can recycle your Christmas tree in San Antonio for free

The city is offering free Christmas tree recycling starting next month, turning trees into mulch at various locations.

SAN ANTONIO — Still wondering what to do with your Christmas tree now that the holidays are over? The City of San Antonio is offering free Christmas tree recycling at several drop-off locations across the city.

From Jan. 3 through Jan. 14, residents can drop off live Christmas trees at four designated recycling centers. Trees must be undecorated, unbagged and free of lights, stands and ornaments.

Drop-off locations include centers on Culebra Road, Frio City Road, Rigsby Road and the Bitters Brush Recycling Center.

Smaller live trees can also be placed directly into residents’ green organic carts during regular curbside pickup.

The recycled trees won’t go to waste. In mid-January, residents can visit the Bitters Brush Recycling Center to pick up free mulch made from the recycled trees, while supplies last.
