The Super Bowl’s entertainment lineup is stacked with award-winning artists.
WASHINGTON — From Bad Bunny taking the center stage at the Super Bowl halftime show to Green Day performing at the opening ceremony, the Super Bowl’s entertainment lineup is stacked with award-winning artists.
But, who will sing the “Star Spangled Banner” come Feb. 8?
Who is singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl?
The NFL announced in late November that Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Charlie Puth will be singing the national anthem ahead of the big game.
The multi-faceted artist is a singer, songwriter and producer who has more than 35 billion stream and multiple platinum singles. From “Attention” to “We Don’t Talk Anymore” to “See You Again,” Puth has established himself as a consistent hitmaker, the NFL said.
Additionally, Brandi Carlile will sing “America the Beautiful” and Coco Jones will deliver “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
“Charlie, Brandi, and Coco are generational talents, and we are honored to have them – alongside our extraordinary deaf performers – on Super Bowl LX’s world stage,” Desiree Perez, CEO, Roc Nation, said in a news release. “This moment embodies the very best of culture, live performance, and our country, perfectly kicking off game day.”
There will also be an opening ceremony kicked off by Green Day. The trio, who formed in the East Bay subregion of the San Francisco Bay Area and are made up of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool, are expected to perform a selection of their best-known anthems as part of the tribute.
Puth’s performance also comes ahead of the release of his fourth studio album, “Whatever’s Clever!,” set for a Mar. 6 release.
Following the announcement of his performance, some critics were disappointed with the choice.
“Man we’ve fallen from when Whitney Houston sang at the Super Bowl. Charlie Puth? He’s not gonna give us vocals, I’m afraid,” Link Lauren, an online political commentator, said on X.
Puth quickly responded directly to Lauren.
“I’ll never claim to be as good of a singer as Whitney Houston ever was. But I assure you we’re putting a really special arrangement together- in D major. It’ll be one of my best vocal performances,” he said at the time.
When is the Super Bowl?
Super Bowl 60 will kick off on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time. Super Bowl 60 will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Levi’s Stadium last hosted the big game in 2016 for Super Bowl 50. It featured the Denver Broncos defeating the Carolina Panthers, 24-10.
