Who will be the Cowboys’ next coach? Here are the latest odds

Cowboys fans — and the national pundits — are already in coaching search mode, if and when Jerry Jones sends McCarthy along his way.

DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys seem destined for a coaching change.

Mike McCarthy is coaching without a contract that goes beyond this season, which isn’t going well at the moment. The Cowboys are 3-6 and without a win on their sun-soaked home turf. Not to mention, quarterback Dak Prescott is out for the rest of the season.

Could Prescott’s injury give McCarthy enough grace to earn an extension? That seems unlikely. Regardless, Cowboys fans — and the national pundits — are already in coaching search mode, if and when Jerry Jones sends McCarthy along his way.

And the sportsbooks are happy to take your money.

The takeaways here? Are you ready for head coach Michael Irvin’s postgame press conferences?

In all seriousness, the Vrabel odds make sense — he’ll continue to be a coveted possibility for any team looking for a head coach, and he came from the Patriots system (before coaching the Titans), always an allure for NFL owners.

Ben Johnson is the Lions’ offensive coordinator who embarrassed the Cowboys when Detroit visited AT&T Stadium. He reportedly turned down interviews last year but might be more open this time around.

The splashiest names are Bill Belichick and Deion Sanders. Belichick seemingly has been Jones’ best case scenario, but he’s into his 70s now. Sanders might seem like a longshot, but he also has a quarterback son, Shedeur, who’s likely to be a top five draft pick, and the Cowboys could be picking high.

So, we’ll see. For now, McCarthy still has a job.
