An honest mistake or intentional mishap? You be the judge.
ATLANTA — It might be the middle of the summer, but football season — and its rivalries — are on many of our minds, including those in Atlanta for SEC Media Days this week.
On Tuesday, it was Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian’s turn to take the podium and answer questions about his squad before the season gets underway. As is typical for most events like this, traditional school music began playing when he approached the mic — but it wasn’t the Longhorns’ fight song. It was the Aggie War Hymn.
Talk about a total oops moment…
Sarkisian, who is entering his fifth season at the helm in Austin, didn’t appear to skip a beat when the music of one of the Longhorns’ biggest rivals played. He simply opened his address in a normal tone and carried on.
Part of this calm demeanor may have something to do with his recent history with the team over in College Station. In 2024, the Lone Star Showdown rivalry between Texas and Texas A&M was renewed for the first time since 2011. The Longhorns traveled to C-Stat and handled business, defeating the Aggies 17-7 in their inaugural season in the SEC.
Now, in 2025, the Aggies will travel to Austin on Nov. 28 to face the Longhorns — and it’s very likely this antic, whether done on purpose or by mistake, will be used as some bulletin board material.
