Wimberley residents urged caution as another rabid fox found in area

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office said a fox was found exhibiting unusual behavior on Thursday, May 29, near Palo Pinto Path.

WIMBERLEY, Texas — Another fox in Wimberley has tested positive for rabies.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office said a fox was found exhibiting unusual behavior on Thursday, May 29, near Palo Pinto Path. The fox was tested by the Department of State Health Services and was found to be positive for the rabies virus.

The sheriff’s office said there has been no known human contact with this fox.

“We are asking all people to please be careful,” the Hays County Sheriff’s Office said. “If you come in contact with a fox please do not touch it.”

The fox was found in a neighborhood near Cypress Creek where early last month, a different rabid fox bit someone. That fox also entered a neighbor’s home and attacked her two dogs. The owner and both her dogs are now safe.

Meanwhile in San Marcos, four people reported contact with suspected rabid foxes. Two of those people were bit and later treated.

Officials say it’s not uncommon to see foxes this time of year, but it is rare to encounter one with rabies.
