With some expected starters scratched from preseason finale lineup, Spurs lose to in-state rival Rockets, 129-107

San Antonio did not play their expected starters in the preseason finale, giving bubble guys a chance to make the final roster cut before the start of the season.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs sat their expected regular season starters in their preseason finale loss to the Houston Rockets, 129-107.

In the first quarter, both teams came out hot and went blow for blow ending the quarter tied 31-31. The same cannot be said for the second quarter, which led to the Spurs having to claw back all game after the Rockets went on a 37-18 run to end the half.

One highlight of the first half, and the whole game really, was the fourth overall pick Stephon Castle. He got to showcase what he can do from the point and shooting guard positions as he will be shadowing future Hall of Famer Chris Paul for at least his rookie year.

The Spurs opened up the floor a bit in the 3rd quarter and got a lot of open looks due to moving the ball around and using up the shot clock until a good look opened up. The Rockets still managed to outscore San Antonio 37-32, giving them a 24 point lead heading into the final 12 minutes.

The second quarter was ultimately too much for San Antonio to overcomes as they fell to the Houston Rockets, 129-107.

Several Spurs players etched a double digit point game including rookie Stephon Castle, who ended the night with 16 points, 4 REB, 3 assist and 2 steals. Zach Collins balled out in his own respect scoring 10 points, 4 REB and 6 assists on 0 turnovers.

The San Antonio Spurs will open the regular season on Oct. 24 against the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center at 6:30 p.m.
