Woman bit by one of her dogs while trying to escape house fire, firefighters say

The strong wind pushed the fire through the home causing damage in every room.

A woman was taken to the hospital after she was bitten by one of her dogs while trying to escape from a house fire on the west side of town early Wednesday morning.

It happened around 3:39 a.m. in the 300 block of Morelia, near Cupples Road and Castroville Road.

When firefighters arrived at the home, they found heavy fire in the front of the house. Officials say that two people who lived in the home made it out safely. However, in the process of trying to get her six German Shepherds out of the house, one of the dogs bit her.

She was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injury. No other injuries were reported.

Firefighters say the abandoned home next door on the left side had a few thousand dollars of damage to the exterior.

Officials also had to deal with a downed power line. It wasn’t clear if the downed line was caused by the fire or if it happened before the fire broke out.

The wind pushed the fire through the house causing damage in every room, with damages estimated between $70,000 to $80,000.

This is a developing story.
