SAN ANTONIO — Destiny Cardona was arrested over the weekend on a charge of a injury to a child. Arrest documents show the child was taken to the hospital on May 9 for a broken arm.
Detectives say the injury was found to be at least three weeks old. The child was found to have a broken humerus bone, possible second-degree burns on the forearms, back, and legs, and a severed frenulum injury, according to the arrest documents.
Police said, upon questioning, Cardona said the burns were from grabbing a hot cake pan from the oven and other injuries were from falling from the playground.
Her boyfriend, Michael Aguilar, is facing the same charge. Arrest documents show Cardona eventually admitted that Aguilar beat the child with a belt related to potty training. The documents allege he primarily disciplined the child.
Cardona is also facing a charge of retaliation related to a February 2023 dog attack that killed Ramon Najera. Cardona is the sister of the one of the defendants in that case and is accused of threatening her sister’s neighbor who was also a witness.
She remains in the Bexar County jail at last check.
