Woman charged with indecency with a child who was in her care, BCSO says

Sheriff Javier Salazar says a teenage female victim told her father that Vasquez had sent her sexually explicit content and touched her inappropriately.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A woman was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with indecency with a child.

Amris Celeste Vasquez, 19, was charged with indecency with a child by contact and display of harmful matter to a minor.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said a 15-year-old female victim told her father that Vasquez, who had babysat the victim for years, had sent her sexually explicit content and touched her inappropriately.

Salazar said Vasquez had texted a sexually explicit video to the victim that showed Vasquez and another female engaging in sexual activity.

Officials said the victim informed Vasquez that she didn’t want to see that. In response, Vasquez sent the victim sexually explicit images of herself, Salazar said.

The victim said she later woke up with Vasquez in her bed touching her inappropriately, Salazar said.

After the victim informed her father of what had happened, the father called San Antonio Police, who later transferred the case to Bexar County due to its jurisdiction.

Salazar said during the investigation they learned Vasquez had moved to Dallas. Investigators then lured her back to Bexar County with the pretense that they needed to speak with her about something unrelated.

Salazar said what Vasquez did was typical “grooming behavior.” He said it’s common for predators to engage in a “feeling out period,” which usually consists of sending inappropriate messages and gauging the victims reactions.

Salazar added that the other girl in the video that was sent to the victim could possibly be another victim.

He said they are continuing to investigate and that it’s possible Vasquez will face additional charges.

Salazar praised the victim for telling her father about what was happening and how quickly his investigators handled the case.

“I applaud her for her bravery and letting her dad know about it,” Salazar said.

Salazar also mentioned that there are resources available for victims.

He asked the public to call the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office if they have any information on a child being sexually exploited. You can call 210-335-6000 or email bcsotips@bexar.org.
