Woman charged with murder after man found dead from gunshot wound following wellness check

BCSO says the victim was found with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He has not been identified at this time.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman has been arrested and is being charged with murder after officials in Calhoun County found a victim fatally shot on Monday, according to the Port Lavaca Wave.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is investigating the homicide after the man was found dead during a welfare check at a far northwest side residence.

BCSO says deputies arrived to the home on the 14300 block of Gunsight Pass on Monday afternoon where they say they made contact with a male and detained him. That male was later determined to be father of the person for whom the welfare check was called from Calhoun County.

It was confirmed that the father of the male was also contacted to check on his son prior to deputies arriving.

Preliminary information from BCSO states the male victim, believed to be in his 30s, was discovered as deputies entered the home. He appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

BCSO says the incident is being investigated as a possible homicide. The Port Lavaca Wave is reporting that Faith Paige Goynes, 40, has been charged with arson causing bodily injury/death by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. Murder charges have also been added by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

There is an ongoing active investigation by CCSO, BCSO, Bandera County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas State Fire Marshal’s Office. Bond for Goynes has not yet been set.

This is a developing story. This article will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
