LEWISVILLE, Texas — A woman was found dead and a man was taken to a hospital after he reportedly shot at officers who were responding to a North Texas motel Thursday morning, officials said.
No officers were hurt during the incident, which led to a SWAT situation after the man retreated to a room at the Budget Suites of America located in the 2100 block of State Highway 121, near Corporate Drive, in Lewisville. The man eventually left the room and was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
A woman was found dead in the room from a gunshot wound, police said. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office identified her as 40-year-old Enida Denisa Middleton.
Police had initially responded around 3 a.m. to a reported suicide attempt. When officers arrived, a man stepped out of the room and shot twice at police, officials said.
Police fired back, but it wasn’t clear if the man was struck by officers or if his wound was self-inflicted, officials said. The man went back into the unit, and SWAT responded.
Shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday, the man came out of the unit and was taken to a hospital.
The officer involved in the shooting is being placed on leave, per department protocol.
