Witnesses told police the dog was aggressive and there had been previous incidents.
SAN ANTONIO — A woman has died days after her dog attacked her at an apartment complex, just northwest of downtown, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.
San Antonio police were called to the 1400 block of Patricia Drive near West Avenue for reports of a dog attack around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23.
Police say the dog was being aggressive towards a friend the woman had over, and when she tried to put the dog on the balcony, the dog turned on her.
The victim, identified as 31-year-old Simone Nicole Lyke, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Officials later said Lyke died from her injuries.
Witnesses told police the dog was aggressive and there had been previous incidents.
San Antonio’s Animal Care Services says the dog’s owner has received multiple criminal citations, including violations related to the incident as well as lack of the required rabies vaccination and a microchip for the dog involved and another animal in the home.
“Animal Care Services is aware of the tragic update in last week’s dog bite case on Patricia Drive. We are saddened to confirm that the 31-year-old female victim of that incident has passed away from her injuries. The circumstances of the attack remain under investigation,” ACS said in a statement.
The dog was taken by ACS.
“While the dog remains in quarantine in accordance with State law, SAACS will continue working closely with other law enforcement as the investigation moves forward,” ACS said in a statement.
