LIVE OAK, Texas — A woman is facing charges after police say a speeding vehicle crashed and overturned along Interstate 35, leaving one person critically injured.
A Live Oak police officer spotted the vehicle around 8:23 p.m. on Thursday traveling south in the 12800 block of I-35 North, allegedly speeding and driving recklessly. When the officer tried to stop them, the driver initially slowed down but then accelerated away.
Police say they immediately notified the San Antonio Police Department, and the Live Oak officer ended the pursuit. Moments later, the vehicle was seen exiting the highway at O’Connor Road. As the officer followed the exit, the car was found overturned on its roof, with two people were inside.
The female driver was able to crawl out of the vehicle, according to police. Officers reported she smelled strongly of alcohol while speaking with them. The passenger had to be rescued by first responders and was rushed to BAMC in critical condition.
The driver was also taken to BAMC to be treated and later released.
Police issued an arrest warrant, and she was taken into custody on a charge of Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle. Police say additional charges may follow after they review the case.
