Woman falls asleep at the wheel and crashes, causing shopping center blackout, police say

No injuries were reported.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman fell asleep while driving and inadvertently knocked out the power to a strip mall on the north side late Thursday night, according to the San Antonio Police Department. 

Authorities responded to a reported crash around 11 p.m. on Vance Jackson Road and De Zavala Road. 

Police said a woman was driving home from work when she fell asleep and drove across four lanes of traffic. 

According to SAPD, the woman rolled through a power pole and brought down power lines and transformers which knocked out the power to a strip of stores in a nearby shopping center. 

No injuries were reported. 

Police said the woman was not intoxicated at the time of the crash. 

CPS Energy is working to resolve the power issue.
