Woman hit and killed after attempting to flee from crash along northwest-side highway, SAPD says

Police said the driver who hit the woman attempted to render aid at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman died early Saturday after she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the highway on the northwest side after a multi-vehicle crash, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Officers responded around 3:30 a.m. to the 11000 block of I-10 West in the eastbound lanes for what police described as a major accident involving multiple vehicles.

During the investigation, police said the woman and another individual attempted to flee the scene and jumped over the median into oncoming traffic. As she ran across the highway lanes, she was struck by a vehicle, SAPD said.

The driver who hit the woman attempted to render aid at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said the driver showed no signs of intoxication.

The woman was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries, according to police. Her identity has not been released.

This is a developing story.
