SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police said a woman was hit by a stray bullet on Christmas Day outside of a northeast side apartment complex.
SAPD Sargent Mario Montoya said officers were dispatched for a suspected shooting in progress on the 3700 block of Binz Engleman Road Wednesday afternoon.
When officers arrived, Montoya says a 31-year-old adult female was found with a gunshot wound to the arm.
Montoya said the victim and her father were walking to their car outside the apartment complex when gunshots were heard nearby. The man told officers he heard about seven gunshots go off. Shortly after, the female victim fell to the ground.
The woman had been hit in the arm by a stray bullet. Montoya said officers located shell casings at a building across from the complex they were dispatched to that likely belong to the gun used to fire the bullets.
The female victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) in stable condition as is expected to be OK.
No suspects at this time. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Sargent Montoya warns of the dangers of firing a gun into the air, especially ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations.
“We got to be super responsible,” he said.
This is a developing story.
