The victim and her cousin were attempting to get her belongings back from the victim’s ex-boyfriend at the time of the shooting.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is facing murder charges after a shooting on Cypress Street in the Park Hill neighborhood, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).
They say on Sunday around 1:17 p.m. officers responded to 1300 block of Cypress Street about a shooting.
When officers arrived they found a woman on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
EMS responded and took the woman to University of Louisville Hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Before the shooting, the victim and her cousin were meeting up with the victims ex-boyfriend to retrieve her belongings. The ex-boyfriend has been identified as 36-year-old Joshua Miller.
The pair met up with Miller who then gave them a ride back to Cypress Street.
The victims cousin said as she was entering the home, she saw Miller fire several rounds before fleeing the scene.
When responding officers arrived to treat the victim, she identified Miller as the person who shot her. She provided officers with his first and last name, age, and address.
Later, the arrest citation says Miller returned to the scene around 3 p.m. and fired a handgun at officers in the alley behind the home.
A short foot chase began and officers shot Miller at least one time. He was taken to the UofL Hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
No officers or other bystanders were injured.
The arrest citation says when Miller was being taken to the hospital, he made a spontaneous utterance to an officer recorded on the officer’s body-worn camera.
The footage shows Miller stating “If they ask you, I wasn’t sorry for it. I was trying to kill that b***h.”
LMPD says Miller will face addition charges for shooting at multiple LMPD officers.
