Woman injured after being attacked by two stray dogs, police say

Police say the woman told officers she was exercising in the area when she was approached by two stray dogs. The animals became aggressive and began biting her.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman was injured Saturday morning after being attacked by two stray dogs while exercising on the southeast side of San Antonio. according to San Antonio Park Police.

Officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Hiawatha Street around 9 a.m. for a reported animal bite in progress. When officers arrived, they found a 59-year-old woman with visible injuries to her lower extremities.

Police say the woman told officers she was exercising in the area when she was approached by two stray dogs. The animals became aggressive and began biting her. The woman was able to fight off the dogs, which then fled the immediate area.

San Antonio Fire Department crews responded to treat the woman’s injuries, which were described as non-life-threatening lacerations.

With assistance from Animal Care Services (ACS), both dogs were later located and contained at the scene. ACS is continuing to investigate the incident and has placed both animals under quarantine.
