A second victim, a 37-year-old man, was also injured. Both are from Seguin.
SEGUIN, Texas — Seguin law enforcement say they are investigating after a woman was shot dead in the parking lot of a Walmart located at 550 S. Highway 123 Bypass, prompting the store to close Thursday evening amid an ongoing investigation.
A 37-year-old man was also shot and taken to a San Antonio hospital. The female victim, identified by police as Katrina Wheeler, was 35. Both were from Seguin.
The suspect, identified by police as 42-year-old John Wheeler, was arrested by law enforcement after a “low-speed pursuit” outside city limits,” authorities said in a press release.
Seguin Police Lt. Mike McCann said authorities initially responded at 4:50 p.m. upon received reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found Katrina Wheeler dead at the scene, he said.
He said anywhere from seven to 10 shots were fired.
“The entire shooting took place outside in the parking lot,” McCann said. “At this time, this is preliminary. We don’t know what led to the shooting in the parking lot today.”
McCann added that Seguin PD detectives were reviewing surveillance video provided by Walmart.
Residents are being asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes to allow first responders to work safely while the scene remains active.
