Woman shot in chest after dropping bag with gun inside, BCSO says

BCSO says the woman dropped a bag with a gun inside of it and a bullet struck her in the abdomen after the firearm hit the ground.

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says a woman was struck by a bullet after dropping a bag with a gun inside of it on the far west side.

Around 4:45 p.m., BCSO responded to the 2800 block of Cedar Plain Drive after receiving reports of a possible shooting.

The preliminary investigation suggests the 50-year-old woman was “moving a bag to the floor” that allegedly had a gun inside of it and when the bag hit the ground, the firearm went off and a bullet struck her in the abdomen.

Officials say the woman’s husband and children were on the scene and the gun was recovered.

The woman was responsive and there isn’t any criminal charges being filed at this time, according to BCSO.

This is an ongoing investigation.
