Woman warns people to ‘lock your doors’ after car was stolen out of her garage

Brandi Wolfe said she forgot to close her garage door after attempting to save a stray dog in the neighborhood.

Gone in seconds. Recovered several hours later. A San Antonio mother woke up on Tuesday morning to her SUV stolen out of her garage.

The theft happened at her Alamo Ranch home. Brandi Wolfe said surveillance video shows the thieves driving off with her car. Later Tuesday afternoon, Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputies reported they tracked it down off east Southcross.

“We went to look and the car was gone,” she said. “Just overwhelmed and hopeless.”

Wolfe said the thieves took advantage of one thing, it was a mistake she admits that she made.

“This could have been prevented if I paid attention,” she said. “Should I have to pay attention that close, mistakes happen.”

She said after 11 p.m. Tuesday night, Wolfe went out in her neighborhood to try and rescue a stray dog.

“I was more focused on my husband in telling him I didn’t find it forgot to the close the garage, my mistake,” she said. “I get it.”

Wolfe said she left the garage open.

“Mostly, the biggest thing was my wallet was in there,” she said.

More than 12 hours later, the SUV was found more than 20 miles away. BCSO deputies said they tracked it with GPS. Investigators said inside the car was a 17-year-old and 18-year-old.

The car was slightly damaged, but Wolfe is grateful she has it back.

“Lock your doors,” Wolfe said. “Take your things. Don’t take it for granted because you live in safer neighborhood or what your believe to be a safer neighborhood and put yourself at risk. I wish I would have been more diligent.”

Investigators also said the suspects were wanted on warrants for other charges, including aggravated robbery. BCSO said just within the last month they have received more than 100 calls for reported car thefts.
