Authorities said they are treating this as a “possible homicide” case, but don’t want to rule out the possibility of a suicide until hearing from officials.
SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after the body of a woman was found on the far northwest side, which authorities calling it a “possible homicide” case.
Sheriff Javier Salazar said sheriff’s deputies were working Tuesday night with a private organization that uses dogs in search-and-rescue cases after investigators were working out a missing persons case.
Officials said the dogs were able to bring them to a general area of the woods near the Wild Horse subdivision, but eventually lost the scent.
On Wednesday morning, a missing persons investigator familiar with the area launched a new search and found the body in the woods.
Salazar said there were signs of trauma on the woman’s body, but added that it’s too early to know definitively if they were self-inflicted or the result of a homicide. He estimated the victim was in her 20s.
A preliminary investigation into the still-unidentified woman showed that she commonly went out for runs and walks in the area without bringing her phone, officials said, adding she didn’t have her belongings with her when she was found.
Salazar did tell KENS 5 that there was no gunshot wound to the woman and it did not seem as if she was dragged to the location, but authorities said they don’t want to jump to conclusions until getting the county medical examiner’s report back.
Officials said she has family members in Cuba, but also relatives here who were able to tell investigators that she is in some sort of relationship. On Wednesday afternoon they were questioning one individual who came to the scene, saying he’s been very cooperative at this point.
Salazar said even through they are treating this as a possible homicide case, they aren’t ruling out the possibility of a suicide until hearing from the medical examiner.
