Worker killed after wall collapse on far south side, BCSO says

Other workers attempted to rescue the man but were not able to reach him.

SAN ANTONIO — A man has died following a wall collapse on the far south side Tuesday afternoon, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. 

Emergency responders were called to the 21400 block of Applewhite Road around 1:15 p.m., for a structure collapse and injured person. 

According to BCSO, workers were building a retaining wall at the location when it collapsed on top of a man. The man was buried under a large amount of dirt, and the workers attempted to rescue the man but were not able to reach him. 

Authorities said EMS personnel arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene. His age was not released pending notification of next of kin.

No other information was provided.
