The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is asking the community’s help to locate the suspects and find the getaway car.
SAN ANTONIO — Residents in southeast Bexar County are alarmed after investigators say two men posing as law enforcement officers broke into a home over the weekend.
“Most law enforcement officers go to the front door and knock on the door,” said Sheriff Javier Salazar. “These guys are either really, really brave thieves or really, really, stupid to be frank you.”
The burglary happened around 6 p.m. Saturday along the 8400 block of Aloe Vera Trace.
“A child heard some commotion at the back and actually witnessed the two suspects, at least one of which was completely in black with his face covered, breaking a window with a hammer and forcing entry into the residence,” Salazar said. “During the course of forcing entry, they identified themselves verbally as being law enforcement officers.”
The fake officers were equipped with red and blue lights of some sort, according to Salazar.
“They were confronted by a female adult in the home who physically ordered them out of the house and these guys went through the home and then left through the front door,” Salazar said. “Super scary overall but thankfully, everybody seems to be okay at the home.”
One neighbor who asked to be called John is baffled by what happened.
“It’s scary to think about that people are pulling up in random vehicles and claiming that they’re cops,” he said. “You see it in movies but for it to actually happen, it’s crazy.”
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is asking the community to keep an eye out for a copper-bronze-colored car believed to be the suspects’ vehicle, which has medium tinted windows and black rims. The license plate is obscured by a bag.
Salazar stressed he’s relieved the burglary ended the way it did.
“Kudos to the homeowner for having the wherewithal to just order these guys to get out of their home, which they did. But of course, I can sit and think of 100 different scenarios, the other ways that that could’ve gone and none of them are good.”
