Young girl struck by gunfire in west-side road rage shooting; 41-year-old in custody

SAPD said a child riding in the backseat of a car was struck and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man was arrested after allegedly shooting at another car while backing out of his driveway, injuring a 10-year-old girl in the backseat.

The child was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a San Antonio Police Department social media post. Two other adults in the car were not hurt.

Bryan Arceo faces three counts of aggravated assault and one count of endangering a child after the Friday morning shooting, which happened at 7:25 p.m. in the area of Timberhill and Wurzbach. Police officials on scene said the girl was shot in the abdomen.

SAPD it started when the driver of the car the girl was riding in honked at Arceo as he “aggressively” backed out of his driveway onto Timberhill Drive.

“She honked her horn at the suspect and that’s when the suspect began shooting,” an SAPD incident report states.

Police say Arceo “took off” before he was eventually found with the assistance of SWAT and multiple SAPD units.

In the aftermath of the incident, law enforcement are reminding drivers about how to avoid road rage situations, including staying calm behind the wheel; being cautious and considerate of others on the road; avoiding eye contact; using your horn sparingly; and avoiding tailgating, flashing your lights behind someone or yelling obscenities.
